The model’s personal aesthetics of a soft and pastel grunge look brings the target aesthetic to life. Everything from the slight smirks and quick devious looks to the florals and cigarettes in bloody hands creates an uncertainty that piques the curiosity of the viewer, not allowing to just look away without giving the pretty viciousness a second thought. The model was able to create an unnerving beauty that challenges traditional aesthetics and pushes the boundaries of any expected definition that may be placed upon them, not fitting into anyone’s box, but endlessly creating their own.

The Concept

The Undefined is a character that creates their own aesthetic, pulling in comfortability but also unnerving the viewer. The photoshoot took place in a cemetery in broad daylight, creating an imbalanced environment that highlights the feeling of eeriness, while also being pleasing to the eye with complementary tones of pinks and greens. The target aesthetic was to provide a dreamscape quality that balances yet romanticizes innocence and treacherousness. To achieve this, I used a couple different techniques. The first being a UV lens attachment. Using this filter, I was able to achieve the purple hue in our photos that set the down of our hazy dreamscape.  We worked with the shadows created by the trees and positioned the model relative to the light, creating a tone of silence, allowing for a moment of pause as if to process the visual for the viewer, like when seeing the sisters in “The Shining” for the first time at the end of the hall.
