The Fairy

The Concept
Bringing this vision to life, I had to make sure I really captured an essence of light and airy mixed with a hidden demeanor. In order to do this, the colors and the material of the outfit played a big role.
The color palette I was working with was primarily pastel blue and pink with metal tones as accents. Pastels are usually used in situations to represent feminine energy, rebirth (i.e Spring and Easter), and even new borns. Mixing metals such as gold and silver can be flashy and jarring if not balanced well. Using such delicate colors, I had to make sure the silhouette was powerful enough to redefine the meaning of pastels.
For the final design, I went with more of a daring choice in outfit to counter the soft colors. The colors stayed true from the initial designs, and even the length of the dress was a length I considered by using a skirt or shorts. For shoes I stuck with a more elevated heel to give more height and visual presence to the model.

Establishing the Scene - Photo Layout

Capturing this essence is that it is like capturing a fairy in a bottle. A soft whimsical appearance but deep down, we as the audience are misled on how the model actually feels. I enhanced the photos increasing the saturation and adding a blue tint to create a bright warm glow from the lights reflected of the golden curtain while the rest of the background and model are juxtaposed basking in cool blue and purple tones. Even the light being reflected off the glitter is a cool white against the warm glow of her blush. Marrying these tones warm and cool of the environment with the soft pastels on the model, truly capture what it can mean to be a modern fairy.
